Upcoming Events
International Workers Memorial Day (IWMD)
IWMD on 28 April brings together workers and their representatives to remember the dead and fight for the living. This year’s theme is: The Climate Crisis and Workers’ Health #IWMD24 so for NEU the focus is on the impact of the climate crisis on schools, including the effects of extreme weather events, such as heatwaves, flooding, storm damage, and air pollution. Many buildings are in a poor condition, whether because of asbestos, RAAC or a failure to keep up with maintenance. All need to be made safer, greener, more comfortable places to learn and work.
Ideas for marking the day can be found here.
In the run up to 28 April we are working with the TUC to encourage health and safety and green reps to undertake a buildings inspection/environmental audit to highlight building safety/sustainability issues using this building safety checklist and this green reps checklist.
Details of events that are happening across the country can be found here.
